Mother Earth Brewing Co.
Kinston, North Carolina

Dark Cloud

Style: Munich Dunkel Lager
Availability: Year Round (approximate release statewide retail date is tentatively set for mid Feb. 2010)
Format: 12oz - 6pk
ABV: 5.1%

Bottle text & Info:
Steeped in a long history dating back hundreds of years, this "old-fashioned" beer is again in vogue. Lager is the German word meaning "to store," so this beer ages three times longer than out ales do. "Dunkel" means dark in German, but don't let the color fool you, it is by no means heavy, overbearing or bitter. In fact, it proves to be a very drinkable session beer.

Tasting Notes:
Pours a bright clear brown with less than a quarter inch head that quickly dissipates. Smells of sweet malt and spent grain. Nice & light with a pleasant toasty malt backbone finishing with toffee and molasses. A clever way of introducing a dark beer to a predominately macro light drinking demographic in Kinston? maybe. On a state wide level, this is a good beer that will be a tough sell. There's not a huge demand for dark lagers and even fewer who will pay $12 a six pk for a local one. That's the question that really hangs over Mother Earth Brewing. Great beer, sexy packaging but for $12 a six?? We'll see.
